The Canine Cook is the brand name of 1st Class Pet foods which is a family owned business set up in 2009 with the aim of producing premium quality, 100% natural dog foods.
How The Canine Cook came about
The Canine Cook is run by husband and wife Peter and Barbara Speed along with their daughter Michelle. As owners of working Labradors and a playful new puppy, they were shocked at the poor quality of dog food on the market.
Looking deeper, they discovered the main ingredient was cereal, followed by meat derivatives – not exactly prime ingredients to give a new puppy the best start in life!
A perfectly balanced pet food for dogs
Peter, Barbara and Michelle decided the only way to offer their dogs a perfectly balanced pet food was to develop it themselves. So in 2009 they formulated a unique recipe and approached a leading European dog food factory to produce it.
Over the next 6 months, the Speeds worked with the factory’s nutritionist to develop a tasty, 100% natural, balanced dog food thatResellers wanted would keep dogs healthy - and promote a long and active life.
As a result The Canine Cook dog food is made from ingredients like prime Scottish salmon, Welsh lamb and English chicken & potatoes – all human-grade ingredients, rather than the poorer quality meat derivatives found in other dog food products.
Added natural supplements
Over the years the Speeds’ dogs have suffered from arthritis, in particular their 12 year old bitch, Brandy. The vet recommended four Glucosamine tablets a day to assist movement.
Impressed by the results, the Speeds decided to add Glucosamine, Chondroitin & MSM to The Canine Cook recipes. The Salmon & Potato variety is also a good source of Omega3, believed to prevent heart trouble, while the natural fish oils assist in joint movement.
After four months on The Canine Cook Salmon & Potato, Brandy is down to just one Glucosamine tablet a day – so it’s definitely working!
